Getting Started with the IconScout MCP Server

The IconScout MCP server connects your AI assistant directly to the IconScout library. Once connected, you can search, preview, and download Icons, Illustrations, 3D Icons, and Lottie Animations without leaving your chat.

What you need
  • An IconScout account (free or paid). Free assets don't require a subscription, but premium assets need an active plan.
  • An MCP-compatible AI tool, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, or Codex.

No API key is required — you sign in with your IconScout account the first time you connect.

These tools support one-click setup. Look for the IconScout MCP option in your tool's connector or integrations menu and follow the prompt to connect.

Connect in any other MCP-compatible client

If your tool isn't listed above, you can add the server manually:

  1. Go to Settings → Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Paste this URL: https://mcp.iconscout.com/mcp
  3. Click Add, then approve the sign-in request that opens in your browser.
How sign-in works

The first time you connect, your AI tool opens IconScout in your browser so you can sign in and approve access. This uses standard OAuth — the server never sees or stores your password or an API key. You can disconnect the connection at any time from your AI tool.

What you can do once connected
Capability What it does
Search assets Describe what you need in plain language across Icons, Illustrations, 3D Icons, and Lottie Animations.
Get asset details Check formats, dimensions, license, and contributor before downloading.
Download assets Get SVG, PNG, Lottie JSON, GIF, or MP4 files delivered directly into your project.
Find related assets Pull alternatives and variations in the same visual family as an asset you like.
Browse categories Narrow a broad search down to the category that fits.
Consistent asset packs Get every item from a matching pack, so a screen doesn't end up with five different styles.
Example ways to use it
  • Search in plain language: Describe the asset instead of guessing a keyword — for example, "a flat-style 3D rocket, facing sideways, premium" — and get results narrowed by style, format, orientation, license tier, and asset type in one pass.
  • Fill a design with matching assets: Share a Figma frame or page layout and ask your assistant to find visuals that fit the context of the design.
  • Explore variations: Found an asset you like? Ask for more like it to get a matched set in the same style family.
  • Add motion without leaving chat: Ask for a Lottie animation and get the JSON back, ready to drop into a React, iOS, or Android build.
Good to know
  • Account required: You need an IconScout account to use the MCP server. Free assets are available without a paid plan; premium assets require an active subscription.
  • Permissions match your plan: The MCP server gives your assistant exactly the access your account already has — it doesn't unlock anything beyond your current plan.
  • Rate limits: Your usual IconScout account limits apply. If you hit one, you'll get a clear message telling you when to try again.
  • Data and privacy: The connection is read-and-download only against your own account, authorized by you, and you can disconnect it anytime. The server is a transport layer only — it doesn't use your data for training. How your conversations are handled is governed by your AI provider's terms.
  • Cost: The MCP server itself is free on every IconScout plan.
